Week 22 Summary (September 12, 1938 - September 18, 1938)

Week Twenty-Two of the 1938 BBW Replay is in the books, and it was an interesting week, schedule-wise. There were plenty of days off (I am assuming they were weather-related), and there were plenty of doubleheaders. (Likely scrambling to make up for missed days this week and from previous weeks. Several teams have reached the 140-game-played mark, but it won’t be for a couple of days yet because of a hurricane that is currently rolling up the East Coast, disrupting train travel as well as ball games. The AL teams are currently playing in the Midwest, so for the short term, they are not impacted, but the NL teams, currently playing on the East Coast, will be idle on Monday and Tuesday.

The Yankees have reached the 100-win mark, they have a 13.0 game lead over the second-place Red Sox, and their magic number is down to eleven. The eyes of baseball aren’t even looking in the Yankees' direction as they are all now focused on the battle in the N between Pittsburgh and Chicago. These two have spent much of the previous two weeks swapping first place back and forth, and then at the end of Friday this week, they both ended up in a dead heat, tied with identical 83-53 records.

Neither of these two teams is ready to roll over, but so far, neither has been able to get into a hot streak and put some space between themselves and the rest of the league. Both teams have gone 5-5 over their previous ten games played, but despite their struggles, the teams behind them are fighting that same struggle and haven’t been able to take advantage and move up the standings to make things even stickier.

With two weeks remaining, and with the weather-related make-up days already figured into the schedule, and with teams looking forward to plenty of doubleheaders yet to be played, that can only mean one thing - let's go play!
